Sunrise outing: August 19th

Filed under: Events — Gerry @ 1:31 pm

Kiama- Shellharbour Camera Club outing on Sunday 19th August proved a challenge for even the most intrepid photographers. Despite the pre-dawn downpour, nineteen people arrived for breakfast at the entrance to Lake Illawarra near Windang Island. Although the thorough research indicated that astronomical twilight would begin at 5:08 am, nautical twilight at 5:37am, civil twilight at 6:07am with the sun finally rising at 6:32, there was no evidence to those attending that this occurred. Instead all enjoyed a hearty breakfast and good company.

The rain did hold off long enough for the group to wander across to the island with macro photography the order of the day, provided you had an umbrella and a keen assistant.

Thanks to all who attended and assisted to make this an enjoyable day. If you have photos to share from the day, please send them to Gerry and Brian.

Sunrise Outing and Breakfast at the Beach - Sunday 19 August 2007

Filed under: Events — Brian @ 1:43 pm

The location of this year’s sunrise outing is the entrance to Lake Illawarra.

Cost of the breakfast is $5 and bookings are essential for catering - please let Karen Daley know if you are coming.

For those coming from the north, turnoff Shellharbour Road immediately after Windang Bridge onto Reddall Pde and follow Reddall Pde to its end where it turns into Entrance Street. For those coming from the south, turn into Pur Pur Avenue at the traffic lights, then left into View Street and right into Reddall Pde. There are barbeques and shelter sheds on the left at the last parking area. From the parking area is a short walk to the breakwall for views of Windang Island.

Astronomical twilight begins at 5:08, nautical twilight at 5:37, civil twilight at 6:07 and the sun finally rising at 6:32. The azimuth of the sun when it rises will be 74°50′06″.

Low tide is at 5:43 with a height of 0.46 meters so the walk to Windang Island will be dry.

Breakfast will be cooked by the committee after they have finished taking photographs.

For those who want to hang around afterwards the moon will rise at 9:20 (am).
