Local Photographer - Brett Harrison

Filed under: Events, Local Photographers — Darren @ 9:31 pm

Today I checked out the current exhibition at the Old Fire Station Gallery, Terralong Street, Kiama. It was “Light on Asia”, a photography exhibition by Brett Harrison.

South Coast amateur photographer Brett Harrison has lived in Japan and traveled extensively through China, Mongolia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos during his last 2.5 years abroad. His exhibition encompasses these countries, their people and the environment in which they live, work, worship, relax and love in the challenge called life.

Brett would like to invite you to take a look at Asia through his eyes.

Brett has on display 36 large prints from his extensive travels throughout Asia. They range from portraits, to landscapes, to street photography, to nature close-ups and more. There was one shot in particular, a Mongolian tent shot wide-angle with an impressive storm brewing in the skies above, that I found simply stunning.

The exhibition finishes up on the 18th of July, so you’d better be quick if you want to catch it.

Upcoming: Arch Raymond Guest Speaker

Filed under: Presentations — Darren @ 8:06 am

This will be a big event. The renowned Arch Raymond will be guest speaker at the club on the evening of the 3rd of August, giving a presentation on “170 Years Of Photography”.

Arch recently held a very successful exhibition titled “Somewhere - Anywhere” at the Dale Thomas Gallery in Artarmon. Here’s a quote from the Northside Creative Photography newsletter reviewing the exhibition:

Arch works in a considerable variety of techniques, several that he invented.

He possesses a great talent to see and record beauty. The composition is always exquisite; the tonality of his monochrome prints is varied and fetching. His use of colours is broad ranging from delicate and subtle when photographing old buildings to bright and strong when representing Mediterranean scenes.

This exhibition covers such a range of darkroom and computer techniques that it really represents a “History of Photography”.

Moreover, Arch’s unique images (cyanotype, lith etc) involve processes which may be lost to even specialist printers in the not too distant future and will indeed be historical and unrepeatable.

Arch will be bringing along some of his prints to show us - looks like we’re in for a real treat!
