Upcoming: Annual Awards Dinner

Filed under: Competitions, Events — Darren @ 11:08 pm

Our annual dinner is coming up on Friday the 29th of July (please double-check your diary, I previously published the wrong date by accident). It’ll be at the Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club, 6:00pm for a 6:30pm start.

Gary Barnes (from the Beach and Bush Gallery in Kiama) will be the judge for our print and slide of the year competition. Any print or slide that has won a credit or merit in the current competition year is eligible, so choose your best and get them ready.

The cost for the dinner is $30. Please RSVP to Karen Daley by the 16th of July if you’d like to come.

Non-member visitors are more than welcome to join us.

Filed under: Presentations — Darren @ 11:04 pm

Our next club lecture night will feature a talk on macro photography by Barry Daniel. Barry has been doing this stuff for some time now, so you’re sure to pick up a trick or two from him. Be sure to mark June 1 in your diary!

Upcoming: May Portrait People Competition

Filed under: Competitions — Darren @ 4:17 pm

Just a reminder that our next competition night is on Wednesday the 18th of May, with the subject of Portrait People. Note the word ‘People’ - no portraits of cats, dogs, lizards, etc!

George Hofsteters will be joining us again, this time as judge. He must have liked the coffee and the company this week. George takes his photography off-beat, so now might be the time to break out your less-traditional images that have been waiting for a suitable venue.

Talk by George Hofsteters

Filed under: Local Photographers, Presentations — Darren @ 3:20 pm

Our planned activity for last night fell through, and George Hofsteters came to our rescue with an entertaining and thought-provoking look at some of his past works (both prints and slides).

George once took pictures for giant corporations and for normal individuals - he took them for money and for art. He has been an active judge on the camera club circuit and has judged for such major competitions as the Sydney International Exhibition of Photography. Four of his best prints are held in the permanent collection of the Melbourne Art Gallery.

George talked about his art, his motivation, his philosophy and, in response to one member’s question, his epitaph.

You can see more of George’s work on the web at the Bundeena Art Trail site, or if you’re in the neighbourhood pop in and check out the Art Trail itself.
