Summit Inks and Paper

Filed under: Links — Darren @ 12:24 pm

Barry Daniel has recently discovered Summit inkjet inks and paper. Says Barry:

Their Premium Glossy Photo Paper is superb - as good as anything else I have seen - comes in packets of 20 for $6 (30c ea.) - can be bought at a mobile stand in Warrawong shopping complex - near the Warehouse and Clints/Liquidators stores. They have the same product in A4 size also.  If you are buying, note they also sell a Summit paper of lesser quality than Premium Glossy. I an going to email them to see if they have A3.  Few people use A3 so they do not normally carry/display it. They have a stand at the computer fairs - just inside the front door, on the left, at Unanderra and likewise at the Uni. The Warrawong stand does not sell Summit inks.

These Summit inks (new - not refills) have a better write-up and apparent packaging than all the other ones I have seen. You can buy other brands a few dollars cheaper but they don’t look as good..Our Epson 1270 and 1290 printers use the same inks T007 and T009 (col). Best price elsewhere for the pair is $70 ~  $75.   Summit sell a pair for $25 (or $ 22.50 if you have a ‘free’ membership card - as I do) - and they will post free.  I have done the same A3 print twice, in succession, one with Epson ink, the next with Summit and can see no difference. I have so far done 12 A3 prints off my current Summits and they are some distance off empty..so I guess they hold as much - or perhaps more? - ink than the Epsons. All these prints are superb.

Summit’s phone number is (02) 9791-6690, or you can email them at summit@summit-ink.com. Barry has no affiliation with Summit, other than as a satisfied customer.

Visitor - Daniel Jones

Filed under: Links, Local Photographers — Darren @ 9:48 am

Local photographer Daniel Jones joined us for the SIEP slide screening last night.

Daniel has a very interesting style of photographic montage, with which he endeavours to communicate the entire experience of a place rather than just a pictorial depiction of it. Definitely worth a look if you’re interested in seeing some less conventional photography. My favourite is Inter-Tidal Interweave, in the colour gallery.

The Final SIEP?

Filed under: Events — Darren @ 9:40 am

Last night over 70 people turned up at Shellharbour Public School to view the slide shows from the 45th Sydney International Exhibition of Photography (SIEP). We thank Len Brown and Margaret Butt for bringing the slides and equipment down from Sydney to put on this event again.

The presentation was broken up into two shows - a pictorial section and a nature section. As always, the quality of the work was outstanding and generated a lot of interesting discussion over coffee and supper afterwards.

Unfortunately, it looks like this may be the last SIEP. The venue for displaying prints at the Sydney Royal Easter Show will no longer be made available to the SIEP organisers. It’s a real loss for Australian photographers, and hopefully a new arrangement can be devised for future years so the show can go on.

Barry Daniel has a catalogue and CD-ROM from the SIEP. If you’d like to see them, ask him nicely at the next club meeting and I’m sure he’ll lend them to you.

Upcoming: SIEP Slide Night

Filed under: Competitions, Events, News — Darren @ 11:20 pm

The Sydney International Exhibition of Photography, each year, attracts entries in Prints and Slides from about 40 countries around the world. The most successful, ‘Accepted’ Prints from the 45th S.I.E.P. 2005 will be displayed at the Sydney Royal Easter Show from 18th to 31st March 2005.

The Slides will not be shown there. They can only be seen at screenings by three camera clubs – North Sydney Leagues Camera Club, Blacktown City Photographic Club and Kiama-Shellharbour Camera Club.

Kiama-Shellharbour Camera Club will be presenting a Twin Projector Audiovisual screening of the Open and Nature Slides in the Auditorium, Shellharbour Public School, Mary Street Shellharbour at 7.30pm, Wednesday 23rd March 2005.

In the Slide sections over 200 of the world’s best photographers (from around 30 countries) entered 933 slides. The best 294 of these will be screened. Major prizes went to such countries as Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, England and France.

Also on view will be an extensive display of quality colour and monochrome prints from members of Kiama-Shellharbour Camera Club.

After the screening a supper will be served.

ADMISSION IS FREE and there is plenty of room in the hall – please bring your friends.

Competition Handouts

Filed under: Competitions, News — Darren @ 10:29 pm

Please be aware of two handouts outlining the rules of entry into the club’s monthly competitions:

  • Bylaws of the Kiama-Shellharbour Camera Club provide a guide to categories and conditions of entry specific to our club. These have recently been updated by the Committee to coincide with the rules of the FCC.
  • The FCC Competition Rules provide a more in depth description of size and degrees of manipulation allowed for prints. Please be sure to collect and read these handouts prior to entering prints and slides into monthly competitions.

After our web host’s server had a fatal hard disk crash, I’ve taken the opportunity to start over with a new content management system - WordPress. It’s been very quick and easy to set up so far, and I’m hoping it’ll be much more convenient to add fresh content and keep everyone updated with what’s going on.

In fact, WordPress is so simple to use, I’m hoping we might even be able to get our film-loving, newly-digital President to have a go!
